MORGAN COUNTY, GA — After a months-long investigation, deputies from the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office arrested two individuals on drug-related charges, including a Madison woman charged with trafficking crack cocaine and a Bishop man found in possession of fentanyl.
On May 7, Yolanda Yvette Canteen, 46, of Madison, was arrested after being pulled over for a routine traffic stop on Woodcraft Road. According to Sergeant Chase Young, the sheriff’s office had been investigating Canteen for months, suspecting her involvement in drug trafficking. When questioned by officers, Canteen allegedly admitted to possessing illegal substances in her vehicle.
During the traffic stop, deputies recovered four ounces of cocaine, which led to the trafficking charge. Sergeant Young stated that the quantity was enough to qualify as trafficking. Following the arrest, a search warrant was executed at Canteen’s residence on Micha Circle in Madison, where additional crack cocaine and drug-related paraphernalia were found.
Canteen is currently being held at the Morgan County Jail. Under Georgia law, anyone convicted of trafficking over 20 grams of cocaine faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.
Just two days after Canteen’s arrest, Todd Lawrence Pitts, 38, of Bishop, was arrested after a probation search at a residence on Price Mill Road. Pitts was charged with possession of fentanyl, synthetic narcotics, and drug-related items. According to Sergeant Young, the sheriff’s office had been gathering information about Pitts for some time, suspecting him of selling fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid.
Young expressed concerns about the increasing presence of fentanyl in the community, noting that it’s often mixed with other substances, including fake pain pills, which increases the risk of fatal overdoses.
Pitts is currently being held at the Morgan County Jail.
