GUADALUPE COUNTY, Texas — A traffic stop on Interstate 10 led to the discovery of nearly 25 kilograms of suspected cocaine, according to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident involved two individuals from Des Moines, Iowa. K-9 Sergeant Dustin Crawford conducted the stop on a BMW near mile marker 623, identifying the driver as Maury Mendoza Gonzalez and the passenger as Evaristo Abreo Camargo.
After receiving consent to search the vehicle, K-9 Zeus alerted officers to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search revealed an aftermarket compartment containing 22 bundles of suspected cocaine, weighing a total of 24.85 kilograms.
Both suspects are facing federal charges in the Western District of Texas, according to a press release from the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.
