Jalandhar police have busted a fake Canadian visa racket and arrested two accused in connection with the scam. The police also recovered Rs26.70 lakh in cash and five passports from the suspects.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Kumar Sharma, the investigation began after Gurnam Singh of Talwandi Bhindra village in Gurdaspur filed a complaint. Singh had handed over 25 original passports and the required money to Santosh Kumar of Lucknow for processing Canadian tourist visas for his acquaintances and relatives.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused Santosh Kumar—whose real name is Wajid Ali—was based in Dubai. Wajid Ali, in collaboration with his accomplice Munish Kumar from Balachaur in SBS Nagar, was running the visa fraud operation. The payments for the visas were made both in cash and bank transfers.

Wajid Ali sent 22 passports with fake Canada tourist visas to Gurnam Singh via WhatsApp. Upon inspection, the visas were confirmed to be fraudulent, and the case was reported to the police for further action.

The police arrested the two accused during a special operation conducted in Jalandhar. They have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including cheating, criminal breach of trust, and forgery.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police have urged the public to be cautious while dealing with travel agents and visa services.
