Two men in De Soto, Kansas, were arrested early Sunday morning for allegedly stealing fuel from a local store, authorities reported.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies arrested 54-year-old Juan Yero and 34-year-old Angel Pena-Palmero at approximately 2 a.m. Sunday after observing a box truck at the fuel pumps of Harps Food Stores.

“Upon arrival, deputies determined fuel was being siphoned from underground storage tanks,” the Sheriff’s Office said. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Authorities estimate the men stole approximately 400 gallons of diesel fuel. Both Yero and Pena-Palmero now face misdemeanor theft charges as the investigation continues.
