The Billerica Police Department announced the arrests of two Lowell residents in connection with the theft of a safe from the Solomon VFW Post on Phiney Street.
Christopher John Silva, 53, and San Sin, 47, both of Lowell, face multiple charges related to the break-in and theft. Silva is charged with breaking and entering during the nighttime, conspiracy, larceny over $1,200, breaking into a depository, and larceny from a building. Sin is charged with conspiracy, larceny over $1,200, breaking into a depository, and larceny from a building.
The incident occurred on January 13th at around 8 a.m. when a janitorial worker discovered that a safe had been stolen from the VFW Post. The bartender confirmed that the safe was still in place the previous evening. Police investigation, including surveillance footage and evidence found at the scene, led them to identify Silva and Sin as suspects, along with Peter George Poulakos, 32, also of Lowell.
The stolen safe was found discarded in Lowell as the investigation progressed. On January 15th, Billerica Police, with the assistance of the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (NEMLEC), executed a search warrant at an address on Wright Street in Lowell. They recovered cash and additional evidence linked to the theft.
Silva and Sin were arrested without incident and are set to appear in Lowell District Court for arraignment. Poulakos remains at large, and authorities are pursuing an arrest warrant for him. A fourth individual, a 49-year-old Lowell man, will face charges related to the theft at a later date.
