Greater Noida police arrested Ankit and Rachit on Saturday for their alleged involvement in the attack on 17-year-old Aniket and his uncle Sumit, both Dalits. The assault took place earlier this month, and tragically, Aniket succumbed to his injuries on Friday, while Sumit continues to receive treatment.
Authorities said Rachit and his associates, including Yuvraj Meena, Jeetendra alias Jeetu Meena, Ravi, Bharat, and Sunil, carried out the attack on October 15 at Syed Pokhar during Aniket’s birthday celebration. The victims were reportedly assaulted with iron rods and sticks over a personal dispute, while attackers hurled caste-based abuses and stole Sumit’s mobile phone and gold chain.
The victims were initially treated at a Greater Noida hospital before being referred to Delhi for further medical care. Aniket passed away in the ICU, and his body was subsequently handed to his family and cremated.
So far, four individuals have been arrested in connection with the case: Yuvraj Meena, Jeetendra Meena, Ankit, and Rachit. The police have registered charges under multiple sections, including murder, rioting, unlawful assembly, voluntarily causing hurt, attempt to murder, robbery, and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
