A special team from the cybercrime police station has arrested Anil Kumar from Sangam Vihar, New Delhi, and Deepak from New Ashok Vihar, Delhi, in connection with a Rs17 lakh cyber fraud that involved duping a resident of Sherpura, Sirsa. The fraudsters allegedly promised the victim, Mahendra, high returns on a fake insurance policy, resulting in a financial loss of Rs17.61 lakh.
The scam took place between January and June of this year. The accused lured Mahendra into investing in what appeared to be a legitimate insurance policy, but in reality, it was a fraudulent scheme designed to steal money from unsuspecting victims. Mahendra filed a complaint with the police, which led to the registration of a case at the cybercrime police station in Sirsa.
Following the investigation, the police arrested Anil Kumar and Deepak, who have been sent to a two-day police remand to assist in further inquiries. Authorities are currently working to recover the stolen amount and identify other individuals who may be involved in the cyber scam.
The police are also looking into whether the accused were part of a larger network operating in the region. Investigators have urged the public to remain cautious and verify the legitimacy of financial products, especially those promising high returns, to avoid falling prey to similar fraudulent schemes.
