Dongri Police have arrested two men, Abdul Rauf and Pamesh Khimawat, for defrauding a south Mumbai businessman of Rs2.3 crore by selling him counterfeit gold coins. The two men were arrested after the businessman discovered that the gold coins were fake. Both suspects were sent to police custody until April 25.

According to police, Khimawat confessed that he had suffered significant losses in illegal share trading and was looking for a way to clear his debt. He came up with the idea of selling fake gold coins as a solution.

The accused approached the victim with an offer to sell gold coins bearing the hallmark of a reputed Swiss brand. To cover up their crime, Khimawat used the hallmark of an international gold company. In total, they sold 25 counterfeit gold coins for Rs2.3 crore. However, when the businessman later examined one of the coins, he realized that it was made of silver and not gold.

Realizing he had been defrauded, the businessman contacted the Dongri Police, leading to the arrest of the two accused. Police are continuing their investigation into the scam, and the suspects are being held in custody while further inquiries are conducted.
