Kajiado, Kenya – Two men were arrested after an attempt to steal 6,000 litres of diesel worth Ksh 1.2 million from a petrol station in Kajiado was foiled by a vigilant pump attendant.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects, Boniface Karanja, 32, and Daniel Kimani, 54, arrived at Sajjy Petrol Station in an Isuzu NPR tanker (registration KCC 312G) on Monday at 4 PM. They claimed to have paid Ksh 1.2 million directly to the station owner’s bank account and requested to collect the fuel.

One of the attendants began pumping the fuel but decided to confirm the payment with his boss. When the owner denied any such transaction, the attendant calmly signaled his colleagues, who quickly restrained the suspects before alerting the police.

Police arrived to find the two detained and later discovered that they had traveled from Nairobi and were part of a larger syndicate targeting petrol stations in smaller towns.

Both suspects were taken into custody for further investigation, and their vehicle was impounded as authorities probe deeper into the fuel theft syndicate.
