WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ohio — Two Akron men were arrested on Tuesday by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office on serious drug charges. Daekwan Allen Sanders, 21, and Richard Lakaile McCallister, 24, both from Akron, were charged with possession of drugs and trafficking in drugs, both of which are first-degree felonies.
The arrests took place after a detective from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office observed a four-door vehicle traveling southbound along Interstate 77 near the 10-mile marker. The vehicle, which had dark-tinted windows, was pulled over due to the occupants’ visibility issues.
Sanders, who was driving, and McCallister, the passenger, were reportedly nervous during the interaction with law enforcement, prompting the detective to request consent to search the vehicle. Sanders gave permission for the search, which led to the discovery of two bags of Doritos sealed in a grocery bag. Upon opening the bags, the detective found two clear baggies containing a total of 1 pound (452 grams) of suspected methamphetamine.
Both Sanders and McCallister were arrested and taken to Marietta Municipal Court on Wednesday. Sanders was held on a $125,000 bond, while McCallister’s bond was set at $150,000. The investigation into the drug trafficking operation continues as the authorities work to further address the issue.
