In a daring theft following a tragedy, Bhopal police arrested Tulsiram, a local food vendor, for stealing a Mahindra Thar Roxx worth Rs21 lakh after the death of its owner, Sachin Gokhale, a bank manager at SBI.

TT Nagar Station House Officer Sudhir Arajaria confirmed the arrest and shared insights into the investigation. Police formed two dedicated teams: one reviewed over 35 CCTV cameras to trace the stolen vehicle, while the other gathered witness accounts from residents and parking attendants.

A major lead came from Platinum Plaza, where the late Gokhale had parked the Thar. CCTV footage captured Tulsiram driving the vehicle away. Upon tracing his location, police moved in and recovered the stolen vehicle before he could complete its sale.

During interrogation, Tulsiram confessed. He revealed that after Gokhale’s death, he discovered the vehicle’s keys were left in Gokhale’s flat at the SBI guest house, where his own brother previously worked. Using his brother’s access, he entered the flat, took the keys, and drove off with the Thar.

When a parking guard questioned him, he claimed he was taking the jeep to the family in Indore. Later, Gokhale’s family, realizing the vehicle was missing, filed a police complaint.

Tulsiram even used the vehicle to celebrate a friend’s birthday but crashed into a motorcyclist, damaging the jeep’s bumper. He had taken it for repairs and was actively trying to sell it when the police tracked him down.

Investigations are ongoing to determine whether he had any accomplices involved in the theft or attempted sale.
