A man was arrested for negligent homicide following a deadly crash at the intersection of 71st and Yale in Tulsa on Tuesday, which claimed one life and left another person seriously injured.
According to Tulsa Police, the crash occurred when a white Honda Accord, driven by 28-year-old Nicholas Stewart, ran a red light while traveling westbound on 71st Street. As the Honda entered the intersection, it collided with a maroon Kia Optima that was passing through on a green light. The impact caused the Honda to veer into the center median, where two pedestrians were standing and soliciting donations.
Tragically, the two pedestrians, affiliated with Saved By Grace Restoration Ministries, were struck by the Honda. One of the individuals was killed, and the other sustained serious injuries. Police confirmed that no one else was involved or injured in the crash.
Stewart was arrested at the scene for negligent homicide and booked into the Tulsa County Jail. Due to his tribal affiliation, he falls under the McGirt ruling and will be prosecuted in either Tribal or Federal court.
The investigation is ongoing, with police working to determine the full details of the incident. Officer Danny Bean emphasized that thorough measures were being taken to investigate the accident, highlighting the complexity of fatal collisions.
Pastor Azor Barnes of Saved By Grace Restoration Ministries expressed sorrow over the loss, confirming that the two individuals were from Dallas and had been collecting donations for their organization. The ministry, which supports individuals recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, expressed their deep sadness over the tragic event.
