FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — A TSA agent, Janiyah Wilson-Robinson, 21, was arrested Wednesday after allegedly assaulting a 79-year-old passenger at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, authorities confirmed.
According to police, Wilson-Robinson, a resident of Margate, Broward County, forcefully pushed the elderly traveler from Palm Beach Gardens, causing her to stumble and hit her forehead. The incident occurred while the victim was preparing to board a JetBlue flight to California.
The elderly woman sustained minor bruises and was treated at the scene with an ice pack, but declined to be hospitalized.
Wilson-Robinson was charged with aggravated assault on an elderly person and spent the night in custody at the North Broward Bureau detention center. She was released Thursday on a $1,000 bond. The TSA has since placed her on administrative leave pending investigation.
In a statement to Fox News, the Transportation Security Administration said it was aware of the incident:
“The TSA demands the highest standards of professionalism and integrity from its employees, and we do not tolerate behavior that violates these standards or the public’s trust.”
This incident adds to past reports of violent confrontations at the same airport. In one previous case, two female travelers from Chicago were involved in a physical altercation after refusing to wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring police intervention.
