Tripura police have intensified their anti-drug operations with a series of raids resulting in the seizure of significant amounts of contraband and the arrest of six drug peddlers across the state within the last 24 hours.
According to Tapash Das, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of the Government Railway Police (GRP) station at Agartala Railway Station, a joint operation conducted with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Wednesday evening led to the arrest of four drug peddlers from Bihar. The four suspects were found carrying a massive haul of 37.615 kilograms of dry cannabis (ganja) as they prepared to board a long-distance train heading towards New Delhi.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Bipin Kumar (23), Goutam Kumar, Manish Kumar Mandal (28), and Durga Devi (40), all residents of different districts in Bihar. They were immediately taken into custody and produced before a local court, where police sought their remand under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, for further questioning.
In a separate operation near Dharmanagar police station, a police team acting on a tip-off intercepted a high-speed battery-operated auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TR05A-2842. Upon searching the vehicle, officers seized 1,800 yaba tablets estimated to have a black market value of approximately Rs. 9 lakh. Two drug peddlers, Ashish Chakma and Bishal Chakma, were arrested in connection with this seizure.
These recent busts underscore the ongoing efforts of Tripura police to crack down on drug trafficking and keep narcotics off the streets.
