Tripura Police have arrested two men, Aparesh Bhattacharjee (55) and Bhupesh Sarkar (46), for brutally beating a dog to death at Harijoy Chowdhury Para under Ranirbazar Police Station in West Tripura District.
The arrests followed an FIR filed by animal activist Dr. Ranabi Roy, who condemned the cruel act and demanded justice. The police responded swiftly and took the accused into custody.
The incident provoked widespread outrage across Tripura, with citizens, NGOs, and animal rights groups demanding the harshest punishment. Notable organizations like Pawsome-Agartala and K-Nine played an active role in raising awareness and pressuring authorities to act.
State Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha and Minister Sudhangshu Das personally ensured prompt action was taken, signaling the government’s firm stance against animal cruelty.
Animal welfare groups and the public thanked the police for their timely intervention and continue to call for strict punishment to prevent future cruelty.
