Tripura Police and BSF Arrest 12 Bangladeshis, 3 Indian Touts

Authorities crack down on illegal migration, human trafficking

by Ananya Mehta

In a joint operation by Tripura Police and the Border Security Force (BSF), 12 Bangladeshi nationals and three Indian touts were arrested for their involvement in illegal migration activities across the Indo-Bangladesh border.

The first round of arrests took place at two separate locations. Five Bangladeshi nationals were detained at West Agartala, after interrogation revealed that they had entered Tripura illegally. The arrested individuals—Sohel Rana, Nurman Ali, Hamim Ali, Litan Ali, and Salim Riyaj—are all residents of Chapai Nababganj in Bangladesh. The police also seized mobile phones from the suspects as part of their investigation, and a case has been filed against them.

In another operation in the Bamutia area of West Tripura district, seven Bangladeshi nationals and one Indian facilitator were detained. Police, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a vehicle near Berimura, close to the Indo-Bangladesh border. The suspects arrested were identified as MD Abdullah, MD Mujibur Rahman, MD Sahlal, MD Sifat, MD Rubel Islam, MD Hasmat Ali, and MD Abdur Rahman. The Indian accomplice, Jiban Baishya, an auto driver, was also arrested for facilitating the illegal entry of the Bangladeshis.

On August 24, a night operation led by the BSF in collaboration with the Government Railway Police (GRP) led to the apprehension of two Indian touts from Belabor, a village near the border fence. These individuals were actively involved in facilitating illegal migration and human trafficking, according to BSF officials. The joint operation team intensified efforts to combat such trans-border crimes with the assistance of multiple agencies.

This coordinated effort highlights the ongoing vigilance against illegal migration and human trafficking along the Indo-Bangladesh border. The authorities have vowed to continue monitoring and intensifying operations to crack down on touts and criminal networks involved in facilitating such activities. Further investigations are underway.
