Three individuals have been sentenced to prison following a car theft that occurred during a distraction burglary in Mansfield.
The incident, which took place on the night of May 15, saw a woman knock on the victim’s window and distract her, while another woman entered the house through the back door. The second woman then stole the car keys from the kitchen. The two women, along with a man, were seen walking away from the scene, and soon after, the victim discovered that her Ford Mondeo had been stolen.
Thanks to a rapid response from Nottinghamshire Police’s roads policing officers, the stolen vehicle was spotted within minutes of being reported. Officers stopped the car on Southwell Road West and arrested the three offenders.
Jaycie Brown, 35, of Greenwood Avenue, Mansfield; Collins Fearon, 53, of no fixed address; and Dominique Mason, 35, of Outram Street, Sutton-in-Ashfield, were charged following the incident. Brown pleaded guilty to burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified, failing to provide a specimen, and possession of cannabis. Fearon admitted to going equipped for burglary, and Mason pleaded guilty to theft of a motor vehicle.
At Nottingham Crown Court, Brown and Fearon were sentenced to 47 weeks in prison, with Brown also banned from driving for 30 months. Mason was sentenced to 30 weeks in prison.
Detective Constable Rebecca Pottage of Nottinghamshire Police commended the quick response from officers and emphasized the force’s commitment to tackling burglary and vehicle theft. She reassured the public that all reports of such crimes would be thoroughly investigated, with offenders held accountable.
