Trio Held for Impersonating Jay Shah in Rs4 Cr MLA Scam

Fake call scam promised posts to Manipur legislators

In a shocking case of high-level impersonation, three men were arrested for posing as Jay Shah, the son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and attempting to extort money from legislators in Manipur, including former Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh.

According to sources, the accused exploited the politically volatile climate in the state to carry out a fraudulent scheme. In mid-February, one of them allegedly made a fake phone call to the former speaker, claiming to be Jay Shah, and demanded Rs4 crore in exchange for promising ministerial positions.

The accused—identified as Richansu Pant, Weish Ahamed, and Gaurav Nath—were arrested on February 18 from multiple locations. They are facing charges under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for cheating and impersonation.

The trio was brought to Imphal on Tuesday morning from Delhi for further investigation by state authorities.

Law enforcement officials are treating the matter seriously, given the gravity of impersonating a high-profile government figure and attempting to manipulate the political structure through deceit.
