San Jose police arrested three individuals connected to a prolific burglary crew accused of stealing from Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) families in the South Bay. The crew, believed to have committed up to 80 burglaries since June 2024, targeted homes in San Jose and surrounding areas like Campbell, Cupertino, Saratoga, and Mountain View.
Arrests and Evidence Seized
On January 16, 2025, authorities arrested 25-year-old Alberto Ibarra Vallejo, 28-year-old Gonzalo Valencia Ramos, and 46-year-old Jaime Martinez Arroyo. The arrests followed multiple coordinated raids across Stockton, Hayward, and French Camp in San Joaquin County. Police recovered 700 stolen items, including jewelry, watches, purses, currency, and firearms, valued at an estimated $1 million.
Methodical Targeting and Investigation
Police Chief Paul Joseph described the trio as part of a “prolific” criminal group who methodically targeted vulnerable AAPI families. The crew frequently accessed homes through rear yards and glass sliding doors, focusing on valuables like high-end purses, jewelry, and cash.
The investigation, in partnership with neighboring agencies and the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s office, identified a pattern of thefts linked to the suspects. Authorities used doorbell camera footage to help connect the burglars to several crimes.
Community Impact and Legal Pursuits
San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan expressed relief over the arrests, highlighting the fear felt by the AAPI community in West San Jose. “Our residents can now feel safer knowing that justice is being pursued,” he said.
Authorities plan to pursue hate crime enhancements against the suspects and continue searching for others involved in the crime ring. Detective Joseph vowed, “We will not rest until every member of this burglary ring is apprehended.”
Anyone with additional information about the burglaries is encouraged to contact the San Jose Police Department’s burglary unit or their local law enforcement agency.
