KINGMAN, AZ — A 23-year-old man is in custody after allegedly attempting to kill another man during a brutal assault in Kingman earlier this week.
Just after 2:15 a.m. on Monday, deputies with the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4700 block of Powell Avenue following reports of an assault. Inside the home, they discovered a man with serious injuries to his head, chest, and stomach.
The victim, whose identity has not been released, was first hospitalized in Kingman before being transferred to a Las Vegas facility due to the severity of his condition. He remains in critical condition.
Detectives determined the suspect, Trinidad Alonso Meza Garcia, had gotten into an argument with the victim. Witnesses reported that Meza Garcia struck the man multiple times in the head with a hammer and also stabbed him.
Before deputies arrived, Meza Garcia fled the scene. Authorities issued a public alert via social media requesting help to locate him. Shortly afterward, a local business contacted law enforcement, reporting the suspect had been seen nearby.
Deputies located and arrested Meza Garcia at a residence on the 2400 block of Butler Avenue, roughly a mile from the crime scene. He was booked into jail on charges of attempted second-degree murder and is also being held on an immigration detainer.
The investigation is ongoing.
