Holmes County, FL — Two individuals have been arrested in connection with a fentanyl overdose death that occurred in July 2024.
The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) said deputies responded to a residence after a possible death, later confirmed by the Medical Examiner’s Office as fentanyl toxicity.
Investigators executed search warrants and subpoenas over the following months, uncovering text messages between the victim and Trevon Chancey and Mason Gibson. The messages reportedly indicated the pair’s involvement in supplying fentanyl to the victim.
Arrest warrants were issued for conspiracy to sell fentanyl resulting in death and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. Both Chancey and Gibson allegedly provided statements confirming the messages and their involvement.
The investigation remains active, and additional arrests are anticipated. Charges may be upgraded pending consultation with the State Attorney’s Office.
