SIOUX CENTER — A 25-year-old man from Altoona, Trenton Alan Miller, was arrested on the morning of Saturday, Aug. 2, on a Sioux County warrant for fifth-degree theft.

The arrest follows a theft report filed after an incident at Walmart in Sioux Center around 8:50 p.m. on Monday, July 21, according to the Sioux Center Police Department.

Miller allegedly attempted to leave the store with $27.96 worth of unpaid merchandise. Walmart asset protection agents approached him after the point of sale, but Miller reportedly made some comments and proceeded to his vehicle without complying.

Further investigation revealed this was not an isolated incident. Walmart officials reported that Miller had repeatedly taken items without properly scanning them on at least seven occasions, totaling $267.34 in unpaid goods.

As the total value of the stolen merchandise remained under $300, the charge qualifies as fifth-degree theft under Iowa law. A warrant for Miller’s arrest was issued on July 22.
