Johnson returned to Angola; Booth and Wallace face charges

by Sophia Bennett

HAMMOND, LA — Following the Friday capture of escaped inmate Tra’Von Johnson, the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) has announced two more arrests linked to his escape.

Johnson, 22, of Tickfaw, was located Friday evening in the Bennett Road area of Amite. After his arrest, the Louisiana Department of Corrections arranged for him to be transported via helicopter to Angola Prison, where he will remain in custody pending his murder trial.

Dameon Booth, 37, who was with Johnson at the time of his arrest, was charged with Principle to Simple Escape and Aggravated Escape, along with outstanding warrants for previous burglary and theft cases.

Trevon Wallace, 28, who previously assisted Johnson in escaping over the perimeter fence, was rebooked and now faces an additional charge of Criminal Damage to Property due to destructive behavior in his new cell. Wallace has been temporarily transferred to Livingston Parish, where he awaits trial for aggravated assault with a firearm, theft, simple battery, and resisting an officer from an earlier February 2024 case.

Investigators clarified that a caller who had inquired about Johnson’s custody status was not involved in the escape and thanked the public for tips that helped lead to Johnson’s capture.

The TPSO’s Criminal Investigations Division is continuing its investigation into other individuals who may have assisted Johnson. Anyone with information is urged to contact 985-902-2088 or submit an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers of Tangipahoa at 1-800-554-5245 or www.tangicrimestoppers.com.
