Alton Man Held After Alleged Hostage Situation Involving Box Cutter

ALTON, Ill. — A 40-year-old Alton man is being held without bond following a domestic incident that prompted a tactical police response on Sunday.

Travis Watley has been charged with Aggravated Unlawful Restraint and Domestic Battery, both classified as Class 3 felonies under Illinois law.

According to charging documents, Watley is accused of holding his girlfriend against her will with a box cutter inside a home located in the 2100 block of Mulberry, near State Street.

The incident began around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 27, when police were called to the scene. Due to the reported threat and possible hostage situation, Alton Police requested assistance from the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) tactical team.

The situation was resolved by approximately 12:15 p.m., with no injuries reported.
