Police Capture Kamps After Easter Sunday Fleeing Incident

by Sophia Bennett

A 40-year-old man from Belgrade was arrested after allegedly stealing a car and fleeing on foot, which led to a manhunt and a shelter-in-place order in the area on Easter Sunday.

Travis Kamps, of Belgrade, is accused of stealing a vehicle from Baker Street early in the morning, according to the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle’s owner witnessed the theft and attempted to follow Kamps, but the suspect abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Witnesses reported that Kamps may have been carrying a rifle as he escaped, prompting authorities to launch a manhunt and issue a shelter-in-place order for the 2600 block of Amsterdam Road in Belgrade.

After several hours of searching, Kamps was found on Countryside Lane and arrested without incident. He is now facing charges of motor vehicle theft and is being held at the county jail.
