WILLIAMSTON, N.C. – A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of a significant quantity of fentanyl, according to the Martin County Sheriff’s Office.
On May 7, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers with the Williamston Police Department stopped a tan Oldsmobile Bravada near the intersection of Technology Blvd. and U.S. Highway 64.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers detected the odor of marijuana and observed additional evidence suggesting the presence of controlled substances. The Martin County Narcotics Unit responded to assist with a search of the vehicle.
Authorities recovered the following during the search:
Approximately 37 grams of fentanyl
Digital scales
Approximately $700 in cash
The two occupants of the vehicle, Donta Antwan Valentine and Tineshia Latrice Brown, were arrested and held without bond for 48 hours. Each now faces the following charges:

Trafficking in Opium by Possession
Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Controlled Substances within 1,000 feet of a School
Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell or Deliver Schedule II Controlled Substance
Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
According to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), just 2 milligrams of fentanyl can be lethal depending on individual tolerance and usage history. The 37 grams recovered in this case equates to roughly 18,500 potentially lethal doses and has a street value estimated at $10,000.
