BUCKHANNON, WV – Former Upshur County Senior Center executive director Tracie Thompson, 49, has been arrested and charged with felony embezzlement after allegedly misusing more than $79,000 from the center’s funds.
Authorities say Thompson embezzled $79,237.43 between November 18, 2022, and March 31, 2023, by securing an unauthorized MasterCard credit card linked to the Senior Center’s account. The card was reportedly registered in her name without approval from the board of directors.
According to Sgt. Theron Caynor of the Upshur County Sheriff’s Department, the financial discrepancies were discovered when the new executive director, Brett Belt, noticed irregularities in credit card bills after Thompson left her position in June 2024.
Following an investigation, Thompson was arrested and is currently being held at Tygart Valley Regional Jail with a cash-only bond set at $79,237.43.
The case remains under investigation.
