Etowah County, AL (WBMA) — The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of Tostig Denard, a 40-year-old from Atalla, Alabama, in connection with the largest fentanyl seizure in the county’s history.
Denard was charged with drug trafficking (fentanyl) and is being held in the Etowah County Jail with a $1,000,000 bond.
The arrest occurred on March 4, 2025, as part of an interdiction operation targeting drug trafficking in Etowah County. Deputies from the A.C.E. (Active Criminal Enforcement) Unit initiated a traffic stop on Hwy 431 South near Glencoe for a routine traffic violation.
During the stop, K-9 TEDI alerted deputies to the presence of illegal narcotics, leading to a search of the vehicle. Deputies discovered over two pounds (approximately one kilogram) of fentanyl, a highly potent narcotic responsible for countless overdoses across the nation.
This operation marks a significant victory in the Sheriff’s Office’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the county.
