Toronto, Ont. – Georgios Sakellaris, 42, of Toronto, has been arrested and charged with multiple counts of fraud and property crimes in relation to two separate scams. The Toronto Police Service launched an investigation into Sakellaris after a series of incidents between January 2022 and January 2025.
It is alleged that between January and September 2022, Sakellaris posed as an investment broker, convincing victims to invest large sums of money with promises of high returns. Once victims invested, he claimed to have lost their money, advising them to sue him to retrieve their funds, though they never saw any return.
From November 2024 to January 2025, Sakellaris is believed to have posed as a contractor offering roof repairs at a discounted price. After obtaining deposits from victims, he never performed the work and refused to return the deposits.
Sakellaris faces multiple charges, including six counts of Fraud Over $5000, six counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, and several related charges. His next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Ontario Court of Justice.
Investigators are seeking additional victims and have released Sakellaris’s image in hopes of further identification. The public is urged to exercise caution when solicited by unknown contractors or investment brokers, particularly those asking for upfront payments or using high-pressure tactics.
