TOPEKA, Kan. — Two men were arrested following a Thursday morning shooting near 6th and California Avenue that left two people injured and sent to the hospital.
The Topeka Police Department announced on Friday that 20-year-old Darian Michaud and 19-year-old Samuel Bustos were taken into custody. Both face charges of aggravated battery, while Bustos is additionally charged with felony weapons violations.
Officers responded to the scene after reports of a motorcycle accident. Upon arrival, they discovered two victims suffering gunshot wounds nearby. One victim was critically injured and transported to the hospital, while the other sustained less severe injuries.
Investigations are ongoing as police work to piece together the events surrounding the shooting and accident. Michaud and Bustos are currently in custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
