CHICAGO — Tommie Coleman, 22, has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of two teenagers outside Innovations High School in downtown Chicago. The shooting occurred on January 26, 2024, around 12:25 p.m. near Madison Street and Wabash Avenue, just as students were leaving the school.
Authorities say Coleman was involved in the shooting that killed 16-year-old Robert Boston and 17-year-old Monterio Williams. Witnesses reported seeing two vehicles—a dark sedan and an SUV—pull up to the scene. Multiple gunmen exited the vehicles and opened fire, striking the two teens while others rushed to safety.
Boston and Williams were rushed to Northwestern Hospital but tragically died from their injuries. The attack occurred in broad daylight, near the city’s historic Jewelers Row, shocking local residents and business owners.
Chicago police say the attackers fled south on Wabash Avenue. Although a suspect has been arrested, authorities have not disclosed a possible motive for the shooting or whether additional suspects have been identified.
Tommie Coleman faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated discharge of a firearm. He also faces an out-of-state warrant and a charge related to failing to register as a gun offender. Coleman was arrested on January 29 by the Chicago Police Department and U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Task Force.
A detention hearing for Coleman is scheduled for February 1, and the investigation is ongoing.
