PLAINFIELD, Conn. — A routine traffic stop in the Moosup section of Plainfield led to the arrest of Todd Wakefield, 31, after police discovered cocaine and a loaded handgun inside his vehicle.
Officers stopped a silver Jeep around 2:39 a.m. Tuesday on South Main Street. Visible drug paraphernalia prompted a search, which revealed approximately 9.3 grams of cocaine and a loaded HK USP .45 handgun with two high-capacity magazines.
Investigators also determined Wakefield was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Police noted that he was subject to a court-ordered protective order prohibiting possession of firearms or other weapons.
Wakefield faces multiple charges, including:
Illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle
Operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs/alcohol
He was held on a $250,000 bond and was arraigned in court Tuesday.
