ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. — Two suspects, Tiziana Olivares Bruna, 42, and JeanPierre Olivares, 38, both Chilean citizens, were arrested after allegedly using stolen credit cards for a shopping spree in Orange County.

On May 25, Irvine police responded to reports of a vehicle burglary at the Bommer Canyon Trailhead, where the suspects escaped with a victim’s credit cards. The duo then used the stolen cards to shop at Apple, Sephora, and Lululemon stores inside the Irvine Spectrum Center mall.

After fleeing the mall, security provided police with surveillance images, including the license plate of their getaway car. Utilizing license plate readers, officers located the suspects in Dana Point and took them into custody.

Authorities recovered stolen merchandise, a signal jammer, lock punches, and a change of clothing used to alter their appearance.

Both were charged with burglary, receiving stolen property, forgery, conspiracy, possession of burglary tools, and theft of access cards.

Officer Ziggy Azarcon of the Irvine Police Department explained that thieves are increasingly targeting victims in parking lots using lock jammers. These devices block the signal from key fobs, making victims believe their car is locked when it is not.

Azarcon urged vehicle owners to confirm locking by listening for audible beeps or physical lock sounds. He also recommended setting up transaction alerts on credit cards to detect fraudulent activity immediately.
