The Toranagallu police arrested Tirupati Sunkanna, a resident of Koracharahatti village, for cheating an Andhra Pradesh man out of Rs10 lakh by selling him counterfeit gold.
The incident occurred on Saturday, when Sunkanna and his associates lured Shiva Reddy, a native of Tirupati, by claiming to sell 1 kg of genuine gold for ₹40 lakh. Reddy agreed to meet the accused at Toranagallu railway station, where he handed over Rs10 lakh as part payment.
In exchange, he was given 125 grams of fake gold, and the gang vanished immediately. Realizing he had been duped, Reddy filed a complaint at the Toranagallu police station.
Acting swiftly under the leadership of SP Dr. Shobharani VJ, a special team including ASP Naveen Kumar, DSP Prasad Gokhale, CI Maheshgouda, and PSI U. Dakesh tracked down the accused. Within two days, Tirupati Sunkanna was apprehended and the full Rs10 lakh was recovered.
PSI Dakesh confirmed that Sunkanna is now in judicial custody, and efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining accomplices. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent schemes.
