In a theft case reported from New Delhi, a 23-year-old domestic help was arrested from Jammu for allegedly stealing Rs3.5 lakh from the residence of a senior citizen in the Mukherjee Nagar area, police said.
The accused, identified as Tilakram, is a native of Uttar Pradesh. According to officials, the complaint was filed by Arti Jaiswal (66), a resident of Tagore Park, who reported that the cash was stolen from her home on March 14 during the evening.
Police stated that Tilakram fled shortly after committing the theft without informing anyone. Based on the complaint, a case was registered and a detailed investigation was initiated.
A special team was formed, which analysed CCTV footage and conducted multiple raids to trace the accused. After tracking his movements, police located him in Jammu.
Officials said Tilakram was spotted in a crowded market area while making purchases, following which a trap was laid and he was apprehended on March 19.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime, stating that he stole the money to fund a lavish lifestyle. He fled to Jammu, where some of his acquaintances were working at roadside eateries.
Police revealed that a portion of the stolen amount was spent on personal expenses, including liquor. He had deposited around Rs1.04 lakh in his bank account, while keeping the remaining cash with him.
Following his arrest, authorities recovered Rs1.17 lakh in cash from his possession. The deposited Rs1.04 lakh has also been traced and frozen.
Police confirmed that the accused has no prior criminal record. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
