A TikTok influencer, Isis Navarro Reyes (known as Beraly Navarro), has been charged with illegally distributing misbranded Ozempic and other weight-loss drugs, causing “life-threatening” injuries. Reyes allegedly used her social media platform to promote and sell unapproved medications like Ozempic, Axcion, and Mesotherapy. Buyers were given instructions on how to administer the drugs, resulting in severe side effects like infections for some.
Authorities launched an undercover investigation after Reyes sold these substances, which had not been approved for U.S. distribution, and which were reportedly obtained from Central and South America. Reyes is charged with smuggling, distributing misbranded drugs, and dispensing medication without a license. The drugs sold were labeled as “misbranded” because they failed to meet FDA requirements, including clear labeling, warnings, and approval for sale in the U.S.
Experts say the demand for weight-loss treatments for cosmetic purposes is driving the black-market trade. While the drugs sold were not necessarily counterfeit, there are concerns about contamination or unsafe manufacturing conditions, leaving buyers at risk. Reyes’ case continues as she awaits trial, with authorities stressing the harm her actions have caused.
