The Chikkaballapura Town Police have arrested three women involved in a gold theft racket targeting passengers at bus stands, where they posed as fellow travelers to carry out their crimes.

The arrests followed a complaint filed by Rihana Khanam, a local resident, who reported that her gold bangles were stolen from her bag around 2 PM on May 27, while boarding a bus to Gudibande at the KSRTC bus stand.

Based on her complaint, police registered a case under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the Chikkaballapura Town Police Station. Following an investigation, police apprehended the accused on July 25 in Kalaburagi.

The arrested women have been identified as:

Tulasi (22)

Prema (21)

Sonia Baba Sheikh (25)

All three were reportedly working as ragpickers. During interrogation, the trio confessed to the theft and admitted involvement in another earlier case (Crime No. 35/2024 under Section 379 IPC) at the same station.

Police have recovered around 70 grams of gold jewellery, valued at approximately Rs7 lakh, from the accused.

Authorities noted this incident underscores the need for vigilance at crowded transit points and warned commuters to remain alert to such tactics.
