JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. — Three people have been convicted and sentenced for stealing more than $50,000 in merchandise from Dick’s House of Sport at Oakdale Commons.
The Broome County District Attorney’s Office announced on Nov. 26 that Damani Mizell and Lyteik Gadson each pleaded guilty to attempted criminal enterprise, receiving three to six years in state prison.
A third individual, Andre Forbes, 27, was sentenced to five years of probation and is required to pay restitution for the stolen merchandise.
The thefts occurred between December 2024 and January 2025, according to Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti. The crime was initially discovered by Dick’s Sporting Goods’ loss prevention team, who reported the theft to police on Jan. 18.
Investigators were able to recover tens of thousands of dollars’ worth of merchandise due to coordinated efforts by Dick’s loss prevention personnel, Johnson City Police, the Southern Tier Crime Analysis Center, and the DA’s office, Battisti said during a live-streamed press conference from the store.
“This case demonstrates the power of collaboration between law enforcement and private-sector partners to bring offenders to justice,” Battisti added.
