In separate incidents on Saturday, three individuals were arrested for possession of 33 kg of ganja during routine checks on express trains near Katpadi and Arakkonam railway stations in Vellore and Ranipet districts.
The first arrest took place when a Prohibition Enforcement Wing (PEW) team, led by Ranipet Inspector K. Saraswathi, conducted a check on the Ernakulam TATA Nagar Express. The team grew suspicious of two men, identified as H. Saheer (25) and S. Mohammed Bilal (19), both from Kerala. Upon inspecting their bags, the police found 30 kg of ganja, neatly packed into 15 bundles.
In a second incident, a third suspect was arrested, though further details about the second arrest are pending. Authorities confirmed that the drug busts are part of an ongoing operation targeting drug trafficking across the region, particularly through the railway network.
The suspects have been taken into custody and further investigation is underway. Police believe this operation could be linked to larger networks of drug smugglers operating across the southern states. The Prohibition Enforcement Wing continues to intensify its operations to curb the movement of narcotics in the area.
