WYTHE COUNTY, Va. — Three people were arrested following a trespassing complaint at the Spark by Hilton Hotel in Wytheville, which led to the seizure of illegal drugs and a stolen firearm, authorities reported.
Officers responded on Sunday after receiving a complaint about two individuals violating hotel policy. They identified 68-year-old James Franklin Brumback of Fredericksburg and 32-year-old Wyatt Leif Gil of Roanoke.
During the initial encounter, police found several bags containing white powder suspected to be cocaine and fentanyl, along with psilocybin mushrooms and drug paraphernalia, in plain view inside the hotel room.
A search warrant was obtained and executed, resulting in the seizure of about 12 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 20 grams of psilocybin mushrooms, and four grams of suspected cocaine.
Brumback and Gil were each charged with three counts of possession of Schedule I or II drugs and possession of stolen property.
During the investigation, 61-year-old Stella Verdaunta Farmer of Atkins arrived and was found in possession of stolen property and a firearm. Farmer, a convicted felon, had a handgun and an extra magazine in her vehicle. She was charged with three counts of possession of Schedule I or II drugs and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Deputy Chief Bryan Bard praised the officers’ quick response, noting how a minor complaint led to a significant drug bust and recovery of stolen property.
The seized substances will be sent for forensic analysis, and authorities are completing an E-Trace on the firearm.
