The Udupi Town Police arrested three individuals on Tuesday in connection with a major fraud case where they allegedly promised a student admission to an MPH program in the UK for Rs 18 lakh. The accused have been identified as Suman S, 24, from Hosanagar in Shivamogga, Suhan Khan, 22, and Mohammad Mahaz, 23, both from Moodbidri.
In the course of the investigation, the police seized Rs 5 lakh in cash, an SUV, and two mobile phones from the accused. The fraud came to light after Santhosh E, a young man who had recently completed his degree in General Medicine, filed a complaint with the Udupi Town Police Station on January 9.
Santhosh, who aspired to pursue higher studies in MPH (Master of Public Health) in the UK, had traveled to Dubai, where he met a person named Aftab. Aftab allegedly promised to secure an MPH seat for Santhosh in the UK and arranged an agreement with him, stating that it would cost Rs 18 lakh. Trusting the offer, Santhosh transferred the money. However, the seat never materialized, and he soon realized he had been deceived.
Following his complaint, the police launched an investigation that led to the arrests of Suman S, Suhan Khan, and Mohammad Mahaz. The accused individuals are now facing charges of fraud, and further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the scam.
