Sribhumi police conducted a major drug bust in Nilambazar on Tuesday, seizing 870 grams of suspected heroin valued at approximately Rs 6 crore and arresting three individuals linked to the case. The operation, led by Sribhumi SP Partha Pratim Das, targeted a vehicle allegedly operated by a private telecom company.
Among the arrested is 20-year-old Iftiar Ahmed Laskar, an engineer with the telecom firm, originally from Hati Sijubari in Hatigaon. The other two accused are Sahel Alom Laskar (19) from Joshnapar, Hailakandi, and Sabbir Ahmed (24) from Defolala, Sribhumi.
Police intercepted the vehicle acting on intelligence inputs and discovered the heroin cleverly hidden inside 76 soap boxes within a specially designed compartment. The vehicle was reportedly traveling from Champhai district in Mizoram, a known drug trafficking hotspot.
SP Das stated that the police are continuing investigations to uncover others involved in the narcotics supply chain. “Efforts are ongoing to dismantle the entire drug network,” he added.
