Three Arrested in Germantown Jewelry Store Robbery Attempt

Germantown, Tenn. — Three Memphis residents were arrested on Monday after a failed jewelry store robbery at Bob Richards Jewelry in Germantown. The suspects, Johnathan D. Spates (29), Jackie J. Spears (34), and Trayneisha N. Hurt (29), are facing charges of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Assault, and Felony Vandalism. Hurt is also charged with False Reporting.

Around 1 p.m., a vehicle crashed through the front door of the jewelry store located at 1696 S. Germantown Road. The suspects were reportedly armed, and shots were exchanged between the staff and the suspects. Spates was shot during the incident.

Germantown Police have seized two vehicles involved in the robbery attempt. According to reports, Spates and Spears have a history of theft-related charges, including multiple burglary and robbery charges dating back to 2008.

The police investigation is ongoing, and no further comments were made as of Wednesday.
