Three Arrested in Fatal Shooting of 16-Year-Old Audrina Arrington

by Sophia Bennett

Aurora, Colorado – Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the deadly shooting of 16-year-old Audrina Arrington, which took place during a home invasion early Tuesday morning.

On Tuesday, January 9, officers responded to a call at an apartment complex located in the 10600 block of East Jewell Avenue in west Aurora. Upon arrival, they found Arrington suffering from a gunshot wound. She was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The investigation quickly led police to arrest April Chevon Collingwood, 44, of Aurora, on Wednesday. Collingwood was charged with complicity to commit second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and attempted aggravated robbery.

On Thursday, the Aurora Police Department’s fugitive unit, in collaboration with the Denver Police Metro SWAT Team, arrested a second suspect, 35-year-old Cooper Miller of Aurora. He faces charges of second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and attempted aggravated robbery.

The following day, Aurora police officers, along with the fugitive unit and SWAT Team, arrested the third suspect, 51-year-old David Gunion, also from Aurora. Gunion has been charged with second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and attempted aggravated robbery.

Investigators say that two armed men, Miller and Gunion, entered the apartment, which was occupied by four residents. A struggle ensued, and multiple shots were fired. One of the shots struck Arrington, who was not involved in the struggle. Authorities confirmed that she was fatally wounded by the gunfire.

Through the investigation, detectives discovered evidence indicating that Collingwood had planned and recruited Miller and Gunion to carry out the crime. Collingwood had allegedly been complicit in the home invasion, which led to Arrington’s tragic death.

At this time, none of the suspects are believed to have any gang affiliations. The Arapahoe District Attorney’s Office is expected to file formal charges against Miller and Gunion. Collingwood appeared in Arapahoe District Court for an advisement hearing on Thursday.

The Aurora Police Department continues to investigate the incident, and detectives are appealing to the public for any additional information that might aid in their case. The family of Audrina Arrington is being supported by officers during this difficult time.

Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to contact Aurora police or Crime Stoppers.
