The Tamil Nadu Forest Department made a significant breakthrough on Wednesday, arresting three individuals involved in the poaching of an elephant in the Emanur forest area, near the Pennagaram forest range in Dharmapuri district. The elephant’s carcass was discovered on March 1, sparking an investigation into the illegal act.
The arrested men, identified as Dinesh, Vijayakumar, and Govindaraju, all residents of Kongarapatti, are accused of shooting the elephant and stealing its tusks. The forest department has successfully seized the tusks as part of their investigation.
A fourth suspect, named Senthil, remains at large and is being actively sought in connection with the poaching incident.
The Pennagaram forest range is known for its rich wildlife, including tuskers, spotted deer, and peacocks. The poaching of the elephant has deeply shocked the local community, who are calling for severe action against the culprits.
In response, the forest department assured the public that they are fully committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice and urged anyone with information related to poaching to come forward. Authorities vowed to take strict measures to prevent future poaching incidents in the region.
