he Naya Nagar police have arrested three men for allegedly hacking into the database of a software firm and formatting critical details of 3.5 lakh customers. The company, which offers solutions to mobile retailers facing payment collection issues from customers who purchase handsets on loan, suffered a massive business loss of Rs 1.5 crore due to the breach.
The owner of the software firm approached the police after noticing the significant data loss, leading to the investigation. Zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Prakash Gaikwad confirmed that the accused were identified as Manojkumar Chhotelal Maurya, Himanshu Ashok Singh, and Chandresh Lalji Bharatiya. The police seized multiple cell phones and MacBooks from their possession.
According to DCP Gaikwad, the accused had been employed at the company and were well aware of its operations. The company assists mobile retailers in managing customer data and blocking handsets if loan repayments are not made on time. The accused exploited this knowledge to hack into the company’s database, erasing critical information about 3.5 lakh customers. Once the owner noticed the data discrepancy, they reported the issue to the Naya Nagar police, who registered the FIR last year.
The trio has been arrested under sections 420 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code and sections 43 and 66 of the Information Technology Act. Gaikwad stated that with the assistance of technical and cyber experts, they successfully traced the involvement of the three suspects, leading to their arrest.
It was revealed that the accused intended to damage the company’s reputation in the market to create an opening for their own venture, as the victim’s company was a leading provider of mobile retailer solutions.
