Three Arrested for Allegedly Stealing Baby at Kasoa Ofaakor

Suspects lured mother with support before stealing her baby

by Amelia Crawford

The Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Kasoa Divisional Police Command, led by DSP Doris Laryea, has arrested three women for allegedly stealing a baby in Kasoa Ofaakor. The suspects are Magdalene Nana Adwoa Boafo, 28, Faustina Binney, 32, and Eunice Koomson, 36, a teacher at Ebenezer High Academy in Ofaakor.

According to police sources, Nana Adwoa Boafo, the prime suspect, approached Abigail Addison, a pregnant woman selling pure water in traffic at Ofaakor. Boafo offered financial assistance and promised to ensure Addison’s safe delivery. She later introduced Addison to the other two suspects, who pretended to offer support but had hidden motives.

The suspects rented an apartment for Addison in Kasoa Lamptey and continued providing some assistance until Addison gave birth at the Kasoa Polyclinic on July 10, 2024. However, their kindness soon turned suspicious after Addison and her baby were discharged from the hospital.

The suspects introduced another woman, claiming she was a nurse from Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital who would treat Addison’s baby for an infection. This was later revealed to be a ruse to steal the child. The suspects returned two days later, falsely claiming the baby had died at the hospital and had been buried.

The landlord, Ebenezer Arthur, grew suspicious of their actions and reported the matter to the Kasoa DOVVSU, leading to the suspects’ arrest. Preliminary investigations have confirmed the women’s plan, and they are currently assisting with the investigation.

Abigail Addison’s mother praised DSP Doris Laryea and the DOVVSU team for their swift and effective work in apprehending the suspects.
