A Wichita man, Thomas Torrez, appeared in court Friday afternoon to face a series of charges following a violent crime spree, including allegedly ramming a deputy’s car and stealing multiple vehicles.
Torrez, whose left arm was heavily bandaged after a K-9 helped capture him on Tuesday, is facing numerous charges related to a series of incidents on Sunday. The charges include driving a stolen car, fleeing police, and ramming a Sedgwick County deputy’s car, resulting in minor injuries to the officer.
Additionally, Torrez is accused of kidnapping a female passenger, stealing another car, and committing several other criminal acts. Authorities later found him hiding inside a refrigerator on Tuesday, and after refusing to surrender, the K-9 was deployed to capture him.
The charges against Torrez include:
Aggravated battery against a law enforcement officer
Kidnapping
Two counts of criminal damage to property
Theft
Fleeing or attempting to elude an officer
Leaving the scene of an accident
Driving while license suspended or canceled
Aggravated burglary
Interference with law enforcement
Torrez’s bail was set at $500,000, and his next court appearance is scheduled for May 22.
