Thomas Hamilton Arrested After Stealing Donation Box, School Burglary

Chantilly man linked to church theft and school burglary charges

Detectives from the Sully Police District have arrested a man after he was linked to stealing a donation box from a church and burglarizing a school in Chantilly.

The incident began on January 30, 2025, at 7:51 p.m. when officers responded to a larceny case in the 13800 block of Poplar Tree Road. The complainant reported that a man had entered the church and stolen a donation box filled with money. Officers located the suspect nearby, but the man tried to flee on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, officers apprehended 58-year-old Thomas Hamilton of Chantilly.

Further investigation revealed that Hamilton was also connected to a school burglary on January 28, 2025, in the 4500 block of Walney Road, where he had stolen money. As a result, Hamilton was charged with burglary, destruction of property, and petit larceny. He is being held without bond at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
