DAVENPORT, Iowa —
Two Davenport men are facing multiple charges after being arrested for stealing copper wire and possessing illegal drugs and burglary tools, according to Davenport Police.
On May 5 around 8:05 a.m., officers patrolling near W. River Drive and S. Sturdevant Street observed two individuals matching descriptions from previous copper thefts. One of the men, identified as Thomas Foley, 32, admitted to carrying a realistic BB gun, 1.23 grams of marijuana, and .54 grams of methamphetamine, all of which tested positive during field tests.
Foley and Robert Hylton III, 43, were traveling with bicycles towing carts filled with backpacks and tools. Police found burglary tools in the bags and a large quantity of scrap copper in Hylton’s cart. A search of Hylton revealed .92 grams of methamphetamine.
An investigation linked the pair to an April 23 theft at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Hillandale Road, where $300 of copper was stolen and $850 in property damage was caused. Surveillance footage partially captured the incident, and Foley later admitted that he and Hylton committed the theft, with Hylton allegedly cutting and removing the wire.
Foley was charged with possession of burglary tools, two counts of drug possession, third-degree criminal mischief, and fifth-degree theft. He was released on a $6,300 bond and awaits a court appearance.
Hylton faces similar charges and is out on a $5,300 bond, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for May 23.
